Staying in or near Wrangell-St. Elias

Wrangell-St. Elias has no traditional national park lodging within its boundaries. The park is absolutely enormous, and the vast majority of the land is inaccessible to all but the most determined and prepared hikers. The exceptions to this are the towns of Copper Center and the McCarthy/Kennecott area, described below.

Copper Center overnight lodging options

Copper Center is a tiny town along the Glenn Highway in Alaska. The park’s visitor center is located here, although not much of the actual park is accessible. There are a small number of independent lodgings in the area.

McCarthy & Kennecott overnight lodging options

The town of McCarthy lies at the end of the very long and unpaved McCarthy Road. Kennecott is a few miles further, after crossing a pedestrian-only bridge over the river. This area is isolated in the extreme, and actually lies within the park. There are a few excellent options here, however.
