Sleeping in or near Acadia

There are no overnight lodging options inside Acadia National Park. The park’s main gateway town is Bar Harbor and most visitors choose it as their home base for the trip.

Bar Harbor overnight lodging options

The town of Bar Harbor is just outside the most heavily visited portion of Acadia and has a wealth of lodging options. Many of these operate only in the high season, usually late May to late October. It is a very busy area during the summer visitation season. The free Island Explorer shuttles help to somewhat alleviate the congestion. Most visitor services in Bar Harbor shut down in winter.

The city of Ellsworth is also a reasonable distance away, less than 20 miles from the major parts of Acadia. Ellsworth has lodging and other services much more likely to be open all year.
