Campgrounds of Death Valley
Campgrounds are scattered all over the massive expanse of Death Valley. However, the only ones with some semblance of civilization are in the Furnace Creek and Stovepipe Wells areas. Some of the small campgrounds require four-wheel drive vehicles to reach.
Emigrant Campground
Size & Cost: 10 sites, no fee
Open: All Year
Reservations: No, first come, first served
Location: On CA-190 34 miles from the West Entrance
Amenities: Running water, flush toilets and picnic tables
Demand: Medium. The campground is small and, depending on time of year, may fill up. This is a tent-only campground.
Furnace Creek Campground
Size & Cost: 136 sites, $22-$36 per site
Open: All Year
Reservations: October through April, online at recreation.gov
Location: On CA-190 14.3 miles from the East Entrance
Amenities: Running water, flush toilets, fireplaces and picnic tables, dump station, some sites have hookups
Demand: High. This is the primary campground in the park, and it is quite likely to be full in winter season. Reservations are suggested.
Mesquite Spring Campground
Size & Cost: 30 sites, $14 per site
Open: All Year
Reservations: No, first come, first served
Location: On Scotty’s Castle Road 7 miles from the park boundary
Amenities: Running water, flush toilets, fireplaces and picnic tables, dump station
Demand: Medium. This is the only campground in this area, and is sometimes full in peak season.
Stovepipe Wells Campground
Size & Cost: 190 sites, $14 per site
Open: October through April
Reservations: No, first come, first served
Location: On CA-190 43.6 miles from the West Entrance
Amenities: Running water, flush toilets, fireplaces and picnic tables, dump station
Demand: Medium. This campground is quite large, but the only one in the area. It occasionally fills in peak season.
Sunset Campground
Size & Cost: 230 sites, $14 per site
Open: October through April
Reservations: No, first come, first served
Location: On CA-190 13.4 miles from the East Entrance
Amenities: Running water, flush toilets and picnic tables, dump station
Demand: Low. This is the largest campground in the park, near the Furnace Creek area. Texas Spring and Furnace Creek Campgrounds are very close.
Texas Spring Campground
Size & Cost: 92 sites, $16 per site
Open: October through April
Reservations: No, first come, first served
Location: On CA-190 13.4 miles from the East Entrance
Amenities: Running water, flush toilets, fireplaces and picnic tables, dump station
Demand: Low. This is one of three in the Furnace Creek area. Texas Spring and Furnace Creek Campgrounds are very close by.
Wildrose Campground
Size & Cost: 23 sites, no fee
Open: All Year
Reservations: No, first come, first served
Location: Off of Emigrant Canyon Road, no vehicles over 25 feet allowed
Amenities: Running water, vault toilets, fireplaces and picnic tables – no water in winter
Demand: Medium. This campground in more remote and higher elevation than the other car-accessible campgrounds. It will be significantly cooler than the valley floor.
