Campgrounds of Hawaii Volcanoes
Camping is not a particularly common way of visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, probably due to the vast majority of visitors arriving by air. However, there are two small camping areas in the park for those who have the equipment.
Kulanaokuaiki Campground
Size & Cost: 9 sites, $10 per site
Open: All Year
Reservations: No, first come, first served
Location: 5 miles down Hilina Pali Road off Chain of Craters Road
Amenities: Vault toilets, grills and picnic tables – there is no fresh water
Demand: Medium. As stated above, camping is not especially popular here, but the area is quite small.
Namakanipaio Campground
Size & Cost: 16 sites, $15 per site
Open: All Year
Reservations: Privately managed, Reserve Online
Location: Along HI-11 outside the main entrance
Amenities: Running water, flush toilets, grills and picnic tables
Demand: Medium. As stated above, camping is not especially popular here, but the area is quite small.
